Recently, Prof. Xiumei Mo and others at Donghua University have developed a multifunctional Electrospun Nanofbers dressing using electrostatic spinning, which can effectively treat infected wounds and promote wound healing. The research results, titled “Multi-functional fibrous dressings for infectious injury treatment with anti-adhesion wound healing”, were published in the journal Materials & Design. Materials & Design.
1. This study prepared a multifunctional Electrospun Nanofbers dressing that can be used to treat infected wounds and promote wound healing.
2. The multifunctional Electrospun Nanofbers dressing utilizes a peptide derived from Prominin-1 (PR1P, abbreviated as BP) and oregano essential oil (OEO, abbreviated as O) to create an anti-adhesive, anti-infective, and vasculogenic wound dressing by simultaneously utilizing both BP and O in an electrospun poly(L-propylenetetraethylene-co-ethylenetetraethylene)/gelatin (PG)-based fiber dressing. generative wound dressing.
3. This dressing has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial and pro-angiogenic properties. At 14 days after implantation, the PG@BPO dressing achieved good wound healing with both anti-adhesion and anti-infection properties. The tensile strength of the repaired skin was almost similar to that of normal skin.
1. Anti-adhesion properties:
Multi-functional Electrospun Nanofbers dressings exhibit excellent anti-adhesion properties due to the oregano essential oil (OEO) component and the microporous structure of the dressing. The release of O forms a hydrophobic oil film with high water retention capacity, which further inhibits tissue adhesion. In addition, O has significant antimicrobial properties, as well as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, further contributing to the anti-adhesion properties.
2. Promotes Wound Healing:
The multifunctional Electrospun Nanofbers dressing has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties that contribute to rapid wound healing, good epithelial regeneration, neoangiogenesis and collagen maturation. Multifunctional Electrospun Nanofbers dressings also promote wound healing by promoting angiogenesis and accelerating extracellular matrix (ECM) production. The utilization of Prominin-1 derived peptide (PR1P) and oregano essential oil (OEO) in the dressing enhances its biological functions, including enhancing angiogenesis and providing a favorable environment for tissue regeneration.
Together, these mechanisms contribute to the multifunctional fiber dressing's ability to prevent adhesions and promote wound healing in the treatment of infected wounds.
